Katie & Jon

A winter celebration at Castell de Sant Marçal

On December 13th, Katie and Jon celebrated their love with a beautiful winter wedding near Barcelona, Spain. Set against historic architecture and rich with meaningful traditions, their day became an unforgettable celebration shared with close friends and family.

On the morning of the wedding, Katie got ready at Hotel Gallery, a beautiful boutique hotel nestled in the heart of Barcelona, where the calm and intimate atmosphere set the tone for the day ahead. Meanwhile, the groom prepared at his family home. Choosing not to see each other before the ceremony, they saved their first glimpse for the moment Katie walked down the aisle, allowing the entrance to be an especially meaningful and unforgettable moment.

The ceremony took place at Monestir de Sant Cugat, just north of Barcelona, one of Catalonia’s most remarkable medieval monuments, where centuries of history, striking architecture, and a deep spiritual atmosphere come together in a beautifully preserved setting. Katie walked down the aisle accompanied by her father, wearing an elegant off-the-shoulder wedding gown with long fitted sleeves, a softly pleated bodice, and a full, structured skirt that flowed effortlessly as she moved. Her look was completed with a long, sheer veil that added a timeless and romantic touch to the moment, making her entrance deeply emotional for everyone present. As the newlyweds exited the church, friends and family formed traditional Basque wedding arches in red, green, and white, the colors of the Basque flag. Passing beneath the arches, a symbol of good luck, protection, and a joyful beginning to married life, beautifully honored the groom’s Basque roots and created a celebratory ending to the ceremony.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests made their way to Castell de Sant Marçal, the stunning venue where the celebration continued. This historic castle near Barcelona, offered a timeless and romantic atmosphere through its stone walls, towers, and elegant archways. During winter, the ivy takes on warm, autumnal tones, adding depth and warmth to the castle’s dramatic stone façade. Upon arrival, guests were guided to the cocktail hour, beginning in the lower garden with beautiful views of the castle’s front and its fountain, before ascending the stairs to the upper terrace facing the grand façade. High and low tables were thoughtfully arranged across the terrace, some dressed in elegant toile de Jouy linens, as guests enjoyed drinks and exceptional food in a relaxed setting. The celebration then moved inside the castle walls for dinner, held in a stunning glass-walled garden room that allowed natural light to flood the space, creating a warm and intimate ambiance. Throughout the evening, heartfelt speeches and several surprise musical performances by Jon’s family filled the room with emotion, and energy, elevating the atmosphere in the room. The night also featured the cutting of a beautifully crafted wedding cake, a refined two-tier design in soft white, adorned with delicate, textured piping and sculptural details, perfectly complementing the elegant and romantic feel of the day.

As the evening unfolded, the celebration continued with dancing in the castle’s restored wine cellar, a truly atmospheric space that set the perfect scene for the night ahead. Framed by elegant brick arches, and hand painted walls, the cellar felt full of character, creating a romantic yet lively ambiance. The party began with a beautiful first dance by the couple, followed by an emotional dance between Katie and her father and a heartfelt moment as Jon shared a dance with his mother. From there, the dance floor quickly filled as friends and family joined in, bringing the day to a joyful and unforgettable close.
